Accra, Ghana – October 11, 2024 – Asante Kotoko, a prominent Ghanaian football club, has announced its withdrawal from the Capital City Africa Cup, scheduled to take place in the United States on Saturday, October 12. The decision comes after the club faced significant challenges in obtaining visas for its entire squad and technical team.

Despite initial efforts to secure visas for the team’s contingent, Asante Kotoko was unable to overcome the bureaucratic hurdles. The club expressed its “deep regret” over the withdrawal in an official statement released on Thursday.

“We are disappointed to announce our decision to pull out of the Capital City Africa Cup,” the statement read. “Despite our best efforts, we have been unable to secure the necessary visas for our full squad and technical team in time for the tournament.”

The withdrawal has undoubtedly come as a blow to Asante Kotoko’s fans, who were eagerly anticipating the club’s participation on the international stage. However, the club emphasized that its decision was made in the best interest of the team and its reputation.

“We understand that our decision may disappoint our supporters,” the statement continued. “However, we believe that it is crucial to prioritize the club’s standards and values.”

Asante Kotoko has now turned its attention back to domestic matters. The club’s first contingent, currently in the United States, will return to Ghana on Sunday, October 13. Upon their return, the team will focus on strengthening its position in the Ghana Premier League.
