Midrand, South Africa – The 6th Bureau of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) today briefed African ambassadors accredited to South Africa on the upcoming Sitting of the Permanent Committees and other Organs of the Parliament. The meeting, led by PAP President Hon. Chief Fortune Charumbira, took place ahead of the scheduled sittings from September 16 to 20, 2024.

The Permanent Committees, which mirror the structure of the African Union Commissions, will convene to discuss and implement programs and projects aligned with the Parliament’s strategic plan. The focus of the sittings will be on the African Union’s 2024 theme, “Educate an African Fit for the 21st Century.”

In addition to the Permanent Committees, the 12th Conference of Speakers of National and Regional Parliaments will take place from September 18 to 20, 2024. This conference will provide a platform for presiding officers of African legislatures to discuss and propose solutions to contemporary challenges facing the continent.

The Annual meeting of the Clerks of African Parliaments will precede the Conference of Speakers, aiming to strengthen collaboration between national and continental legislative efforts. The meeting will also focus on supporting national parliament members in their PAP roles and enhancing the Parliament’s ability to integrate and amplify the work of national parliaments across Africa.
