South Africa has bolstered its construction and infrastructure development through two new agreements signed with Chinese companies during President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State Visit to China. The agreements, aimed at boosting the country’s economy and job creation, were signed with the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) and ASI Global.
Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson, who accompanied Ramaphosa, announced that the CCCC would bid on South African projects under the Public Management Finance Act (PMFA). These projects include the construction of municipal buildings, fishing harbors, and public-owned infrastructure.
In addition to infrastructure projects, ASI Global will contribute to the development of South African construction talent, offering professional training and enhancing the skills of workers in the sector.
Minister Macpherson, appointed just two months ago, has prioritized turning South Africa into a “construction site” to boost the economy and create thousands of new jobs. He stated that these agreements with key international players like CCCC and ASI Global mark a critical step toward achieving that goal.
“These declarations pave the way for us to tap into global expertise to strengthen our infrastructure and create opportunities for South Africans across the country,” said Macpherson. The minister added that further agreements will be developed in the coming months to address any potential barriers to launching construction projects.
The expertise of companies like CCCC and ASI Global will be essential as we work towards rapid economic growth and job creation,” he said.
