Lilongwe, Malawi – The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has called on media practitioners in the country to deepen their understanding of the nation’s fuel pricing mechanisms.

During a sensitization workshop held at Riverside Hotel in Lilongwe, MERA’s Director of Economic Regulation, Patrick Uka, stressed the importance of bridging the knowledge gap to ensure effective communication and transparency in the energy sector.

“MERA recognizes the pivotal role of the media in disseminating accurate information to the public,” Uka said. “By understanding how fuel prices are determined, journalists can provide informed and balanced reporting, fostering trust and confidence in the regulatory process.”

Arthur Chipenda, Director of Information in the Ministry of Information and Digitalisation, emphasized the government’s commitment to open dialogue and public engagement on critical issues like fuel pricing. “We believe that by empowering the media with accurate information, we can ensure that Malawians are well-informed and can participate meaningfully in the development of our country,” he stated.

Lisa Malango, Acting Director of Government Communications Services, echoed Chipenda’s sentiments, highlighting the media’s crucial role in disseminating timely and reliable information to the public. “Let us work together to build a more informed and engaged citizenry,” she urged.
