Lilongwe, Malawi – Mozambican President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate in International Affairs and Diplomacy by the University of Malawi (UNIMA). The accolade, given in recognition of his service to Mozambique, SADC, and the international community, was presented at a ceremony in Zomba.
In his acceptance speech, Nyusi expressed gratitude to Malawian President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, acknowledging the strong ties between Malawi and Mozambique. Nyusi noted that the honor reflected the achievements both countries have made in international relations and common development goals. “We are friends at all times, even in trying moments. I am humbled, honored, and grateful for this award,” Nyusi said. He also committed to visiting UNIMA to discuss Mozambique’s economic diplomacy with students.
President Chakwera praised Nyusi for his contributions to regional peace and prosperity, particularly in enhancing diplomatic relations between Malawi and Mozambique. He highlighted their cooperation in areas like security, trade, and cultural exchange, describing the award as a symbol of a new era of closer collaboration between the two nations.
UNIMA Vice-Chancellor Professor Samson Sajidu commended Nyusi for his outstanding service, recognizing him as a leading figure in diplomacy. Sajidu also emphasized the university’s intent to collaborate further with Mozambican academic institutions.
Nyusi concluded by stating that the honor was significant not just for him but for all Mozambicans.
