Japan, Sierra Leone Pledge to Strengthen Partnership

Tokyo, Japan – August 24, 2024 – Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Kiyoto Tsuji, met with Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Francess Piagie Alghali, to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation.

Minister Tsuji expressed gratitude for Sierra Leone’s close cooperation with Japan as a key member of the Committee of Ten (C10), a group of African countries advocating for the expansion of the United Nations Security Council.

Deputy Minister Alghali expressed her appreciation for Japan’s efforts through the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) and emphasized the importance of continued cooperation in the international arena, particularly in the area of women, peace, and security (WPS).

The two sides agreed on the importance of investment for economic development and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic relations. They also confirmed their intention to further deepen Japan-Sierra Leone relations ahead of the upcoming TICAD 9 conference.
