Tokyo, Japan – August 24, 2024 – Japan’s Foreign Minister, Yoko Kamikawa, met with her Mauritian counterpart, Maneesh Gobin, to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
Minister Kamikawa reiterated Japan’s commitment to working with Mauritius as a key partner in promoting a Free and Open Indo-Pacific. She highlighted the importance of strengthening the rule of law in the region and expressed Japan’s support for Mauritius’ efforts to establish an embassy in Tokyo.
Minister Gobin expressed his pleasure at attending the TICAD Ministerial Meeting and reaffirmed Mauritius’ support for the Free and Open Indo-Pacific concept. He also emphasized the importance of Japanese investment in Mauritius and sought Japan’s cooperation in this area.
The two ministers agreed to continue coordinating on maritime security and the blue economy. They also confirmed their intention to further develop Japan-Mauritius relations ahead of the upcoming TICAD 9 conference.
