US Medical Team Arrives in Suriname for Free Healthcare

Paramaribo, Suriname – A contingent of 32 medical professionals, including dentists and health specialists, from the South Dakota National Guard and the 114th Fighter Wing touched down in Suriname last night to embark on a week-long humanitarian mission.

The team, under the banner of Operation ‘Gran Mati’, will provide free healthcare services to Surinamese citizens from August 19 to 26. The medical outreach will be conducted at three locations: Heilig Hart School in La Vigilantia, St. Wilhelmus School in Powakka, and a special unit within the JTV Dental Clinic at the Military Hospital in Paramaribo.

Medical services at the Para locations will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekends. Dental care at the Military Hospital will be offered exclusively on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This marks the fourth iteration of Operation ‘Gran Mati’. Previous missions have served communities in Albina, District Marowijne; Apoera, Resort Kabalebo, District Sipaliwini; and Langa Tabbetje, Resort Pamacca, District Sipaliwini.
