Lusaka, Zambia – Zambia’s President, Hakainde Hichilema, chaired a key Southern African Development Community (SADC) meeting on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation, held virtually in Harare, Zimbabwe. The summit, which gathered Heads of State and Government, focused on regional political and security issues.
President Hichilema, who could not attend in person due to pressing national matters, thanked Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the people of Zimbabwe for their hospitality towards the Zambian delegation. He also expressed gratitude to fellow SADC leaders for their support during his tenure as Chairperson of the Organ.
Hichilema highlighted the importance of the Organ in maintaining peace, security, and political stability in the SADC region, noting that these are vital for socio-economic development. He pledged continued support to the incoming Chairperson, Tanzanian President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, and affirmed Zambia’s ongoing commitment to the Organ’s objectives.
The President reported that while the region’s overall political and security situation is stable, certain member states face challenges that require attention.
