His Majesty King Mswati III has officially summoned young maidens across Eswatini to gather at the Ludzidzini Royal Residence for the first session of the Umhlanga ceremony, scheduled to commence on August 27, 2024. The announcement was delivered by Princess Sakhizwe, marking the start of this significant cultural event.
The Umhlanga ceremony, a vibrant and time-honored tradition, will unfold over several days with key activities including the arrival and registration of maidens on August 27, followed by their journey to various centers to cut reeds on August 28 and 29. The maidens will return to Ludzidzini on August 30 and take a day of rest on August 31. The reeds will be presented before Their Majesties on September 1, leading up to the main day of the Umhlanga Reed Dance on September 2.
