South Sudan, UNMISS Hold High-Level Talks

Juba, South Sudan – South Sudan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Monday Semaya Kumba, chaired a high-level coordination meeting on Monday, August 13. The monthly forum brings together government officials, the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), and other UN agencies to discuss matters of mutual interest.

During the meeting, Ambassador Kumba expressed gratitude for UNMISS’s continued support in implementing key benchmarks. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering collaboration with UN agencies operating in the country.

The Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Guang Cong, described the meeting as fruitful and commended the spirit of cooperation between the government and UNMISS. He highlighted that the forum discussed crucial issues such as checkpoints and the free movement of peacekeepers, as outlined in the UNMISS mandate.

Ambassador Deng Deng Nhial, Director-General for Multilateral Relations, emphasized the importance of the forum in strengthening cooperation between the government and UN agencies working in South Sudan.
