Kaapmuiden, Mpumalanga – Forty-five undocumented Mozambicans, including ten infants, were arrested on Friday after being intercepted in three vehicles in Mpumalanga. The drivers of the vehicles were also apprehended.
According to Mpumalanga Hawks spokesperson Captain Dineo Sekgotodi, a tip-off from crime intelligence led to the successful operation. The vehicles were stopped and searched along the N4 highway near Kaapmuiden.
Among the arrested were sixteen women, four teenage girls, and fifteen men. The group was allegedly en route to Johannesburg.
The suspects, aged between 17 and 40, appeared in the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Monday. They face charges of kidnapping, aiding and abetting, and violating the Immigration Act.
The case has been transferred to the Nelspruit Hawks for further investigation.
