Port Louis, Mauritius – Ghana and Mauritius have pledged to deepen their bilateral relations, exploring new avenues of cooperation in areas such as trade, education, aviation, and tourism.

The commitment was made during a high-level meeting between Ghanaian Foreign Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey and her Mauritian counterpart, Maneesh Gobin, on Thursday. The two ministers expressed satisfaction with the existing ties between the two nations and outlined a roadmap for further strengthening them.

A key highlight of the discussions was the exploration of a potential circular migration agreement. This would involve the movement of workers between the two countries, aiming to address labor shortages in both nations while fostering skills development and economic growth.

Minister Botchwey also used the platform to promote her candidacy for the Commonwealth Secretary-General position. She outlined her vision for the organization, emphasizing democracy, trade, youth development, climate change, and effective resource management. Minister Gobin acknowledged Ghana’s role within the Commonwealth and expressed Mauritius’ commitment to considering the candidature.
