Windhoek, Namibia – International Relations and Cooperation Minister, Dr. Peya Mushelenga, yesterday made an unannounced visit to the Namibia School of Diplomatic Studies (NSDS) to assess the institution’s progress since its inception.
The NSDS, a brainchild of the ministry, commenced its maiden intake in May this year, offering three short courses in international relations, Namibia’s foreign policy, and international relations management. The program is set to conclude this month.
Interim Head of the School, Phanuel Kaapama, briefed the Minister on the institution’s rapid growth and the high enrollment figures for its short courses. He also expressed gratitude for the partnership with the University of Namibia (UNAM), which has been instrumental in delivering practical diplomatic training.

Minister Mushelenga’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to building a skilled diplomatic corps capable of navigating the complex global landscape. The NSDS, fully funded by the Ministry, aims to foster research, innovation, and equip Namibians with the necessary skills for the diplomatic service.
A Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry and UNAM, signed in April 2022, laid the groundwork for the NSDS. The collaboration seeks to enhance the professional skills of foreign service practitioners through academic training and research in foreign policy, economic diplomacy, and political analysis.
The school plans to expand its course offerings to include economic diplomacy, protocol, and etiquette in the near future.
