Windhoek, Namibia – Namibia is ramping up efforts to engage key stakeholders ahead of the upcoming Summit of the Future, co-hosted with Germany. The summit, scheduled for September 22-23 in New York, aims to reinvigorate the UN’s Agenda 2030 and address pressing global challenges.

International Relations and Cooperation Minister, Dr. Peya Mushelenga, convened a high-level meeting on Wednesday to galvanize support for the event. He emphasized the summit’s significance, stressing the need for global unity to tackle shared challenges.

“Without trust and solidarity,” Minister Mushelenga said, “we cannot expect to move together towards the Future We Want.”

German Ambassador to Namibia, Dr. Thorsten Hutter, echoed the minister’s sentiments, highlighting the summit’s role as a cornerstone for future international cooperation. The UN Resident Coordinator, Ms. Alka Bhatia, noted that the event will build upon the momentum generated by last year’s SDG Summit.

The meeting brought together government officials, diplomats, academics, and youth leaders to discuss Namibia’s role in the global summit. The aim is to create widespread awareness of the event and its potential impact on the country and the world.

Namibia and Germany are co-facilitating the summit, a joint endeavor that underscores the two nations’ commitment to multilateralism.
