Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received credentials from Vinta Somé, the new Ambassador of Burkina Faso to Azerbaijan, on August 5. This meeting, which took place in Baku, marks a significant step towards strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.
During their discussion, President Aliyev expressed Azerbaijan’s keen interest in developing comprehensive relations with Burkina Faso, particularly in the areas of economic and trade cooperation. He highlighted opportunities for Azerbaijani investments in Burkina Faso, aiming to enhance mutual benefits.

Aliyev underscored the importance of mutual support within international organizations, such as the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement. He praised Azerbaijan’s active role in addressing issues like colonialism and neo-colonialism, criticizing France’s policies in this regard. Aliyev noted Azerbaijan’s efforts to advocate for the independence of oppressed peoples and called for greater solidarity against colonial oppression.
Ambassador Somé, conveying greetings from Burkina Faso’s President Ibrahim Traoré, expressed gratitude for the warm reception. He congratulated Aliyev on his re-election and the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. Somé emphasized Burkina Faso’s readiness for strategic cooperation with Azerbaijan, mentioning potential collaborations in energy, agriculture, education, counter-terrorism, and other sectors.

Aliyev also mentioned the role of the Azerbaijani ambassador to the African Union in fostering closer ties with African countries and planning specific bilateral cooperation initiatives.
Somé appreciated Azerbaijan’s support in the fight against colonialism and noted the strengthening of the Pan-African movement. He also expressed Burkina Faso’s commitment to being well-represented at COP29, which Azerbaijan is organizing.
