LAGOS – As Nigerians took to the streets on Thursday to protest against bad governance and economic hardship, many faced significant disruptions to their internet services. Users across the country reported slow speeds and network instability, particularly on MTN, Glo, and 9mobile networks.

The widespread internet outage has raised suspicions among users who believe it was a deliberate attempt to hinder the protests. With social media playing a crucial role in organizing and amplifying protest movements, a restricted internet access could significantly impact the ability of protesters to communicate and share information.

Protesters in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt recounted their struggles to connect online, with many unable to share images and videos of the demonstrations on social media platforms. Some users reported intermittent connections while others experienced complete blackouts.

Telecommunication companies have yet to issue official statements regarding the network issues.
