Lagos, Nigeria – Legendary Nigerian singer and actress, Ms Onyeka Onwenu has passed away at the age of 72. She died on Tuesday night at Banana Island, Lagos state.
Onwenu slumped and after a performance at the 80th birthday celebration of her friend and founder of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, Chief Stella Okoli. The songwriter and social activist was immediately taken to Reddington Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Meanwhile the deceased’s family is yet to officially announce her death as of press time.
Dubbed ‘Elegant Stallion’ by the Nigerian press, Onwenu was a multifaceted Nigerian singer-songwriter, actress, human rights advocate, journalist, and politician. She began her music career in the 1980s and released her debut album, ‘For the Love of You,’ in 1981. She has since released numerous albums and singles, including the hit song ‘One Love’ Onwenu will also be remembered for her music albums such as In The Morning Light and Dancing In The Sun.
