The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Amb. Monday Semaya K. Kumba, condemned the error made during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games when the wrong national anthem was played for South Sudan. Addressing Parliament on Monday, he labeled the incident “unacceptable, unprecedented, and not excusable.”
In response to inquiries during parliamentary ordinary sitting No. 25/2024, Hon. Amb. Monday assured lawmakers that the Ministry is actively addressing the issue with the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Organizing Committee, South Sudan’s delegation, and the Embassy in Paris. He emphasized that the resolution will adhere to state sovereignty, diplomatic norms, and international practices.
The Deputy Minister also updated Parliament on efforts to facilitate entry visas for South Sudanese athletes and officials to Paris. He reiterated the Ministry’s dedication to representing South Sudan effectively, defending its state symbols, and protecting national interests.
The anthem mishap has caused significant concern in South Sudan, prompting immediate governmental action to prevent future occurrences and maintain national dignity on the international stage.
