Maseru, Lesotho – The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has appointed Ms. Edith Kirumba as its new Country Representative to Lesotho. Kirumba presented her credentials to Foreign Minister Lejone Mpotjoane on Wednesday morning.
She replaces Robson Mutandi, who held the position on an interim basis since June 2023. Based in Johannesburg, South Africa, Kirumba will oversee IFAD’s operations in the mountain kingdom.
IFAD is a United Nations agency dedicated to improving the lives of rural populations. Its core mission is to reduce poverty, boost food security, and enhance resilience among small-scale farmers.
In Lesotho, IFAD has primarily focused on supporting the wool and mohair industry, a crucial sector for the country’s economy. The agency has also worked with smallholder farmers to increase agricultural productivity and promote market-oriented farming.
