Former US President Donald Trump criticized President Joe Biden’s fitness for office following Biden’s announcement of his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race. Trump, now a Republican presidential candidate, promised to “remedy the damage” caused by Biden’s administration.
Biden announced his withdrawal, citing the best interests of his party and the country. He endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential candidate for the upcoming November 5 election. “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president,” Biden said in his statement, emphasizing his commitment to focus on his remaining term.
Trump’s response was swift and pointed. “Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for president and is certainly not fit to serve – And never was!” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social. He accused Biden of attaining the presidency through deceit and criticized his administration’s handling of border security, alleging unchecked and unvetted entries, including criminals and terrorists.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican, echoed Trump’s sentiments, arguing that the Democratic Party’s situation is no better with Harris. Johnson called for Biden’s immediate resignation, stating, “If Joe Biden is not fit to run for President, he is not fit to serve as President. He must resign the office immediately.”
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise criticized the Biden administration on X, accusing Democrats and the media of misleading the public about Biden’s fitness. “Every single one of these people — especially Vice President Harris — who participated in this cover-up must answer for their involvement,” Scalise wrote. He blamed the administration’s policies for record inflation, a severe border crisis, and global instability.
