Nigerians looking to visit South Africa can now breathe a sigh of relief. The processing time for visas has been dramatically reduced from a lengthy six months to a mere seven days, according to Professor Bobby Moroe, South Africa’s Consul-General to Nigeria.
This positive development was announced at a recent breakfast meeting in Lagos, themed “Diplomatic Relations Between South Africa and Nigeria: Prospects and Challenges.” Moroe explained that the streamlined process hinges on applicants attaching a photocopy of their passport with their initial application. They will then be contacted to submit the original document when the visa is ready for collection.
The announcement comes amidst discussions about trade relations between the two African powerhouses. While Nigeria enjoys a significant trade surplus with South Africa, with exports like rubber, petroleum, and crude oil reaching $72.1 billion in 2022, Moroe believes there’s room for further collaboration. He suggested encouraging more Nigerian companies to invest in South Africa, potentially offsetting the current imbalance.
South Africa’s exports to Nigeria, totaling $447 million, are dominated by specialized industrial products like magnetic rubber stoppers, but also include pears and apples, a sign, according to Moroe, of Nigeria’s growing appetite for these fruits. This streamlined visa process is expected to boost tourism and potentially lead to a more balanced and dynamic trade relationship between the two nations.

My comment for mow, is just an inquiry. I guess the category of visas to enjoy this one-week processing period is for those applying for Visitors Visas. May we know if this processing period applies to every other category? Thank you.
