Kenya stands in steadfast solidarity with South Sudan as the young nation celebrates its 13th year of independence. The High-Level Mediation for South Sudan – Tumaini Initiative, led by retired Lt. General Lazaro Sumbeiywo, echoed this sentiment, commending South Sudan’s unwavering spirit in the face of past challenges.

The road to independence for South Sudan, the world’s youngest nation, was arduous. Yet, its people have consistently demonstrated a remarkable commitment to peace and national unity, embodying hope and resilience.

In a message to South Sudan’s leadership and people, Kenyan President’s Special Envoy and Advisor to the Great Lakes Region, Honorable Charles Keter, lauded the nation’s progress in fostering peace, stability, and unity. Kenya reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to supporting South Sudan in its pursuit of lasting peace, prosperity, and national cohesion.

Drawing attention to Kenya’s role as the current Chair of the East Africa Community, Hon. Keter underscored the importance of regional cooperation in advancing peace and security.

“South Sudan’s independence day is a time to remember the sacrifices made for freedom and to ensure those dreams are not forgotten,” said Hon. Keter. “It’s an opportunity to embrace the nation’s rich tapestry of cultures and languages, turning them into sources of strength.”

The Chief Mediator urged continued dialogue and national reconciliation. He implored South Sudan’s leaders and people to build a future where every child can flourish in a nation free from conflict, with access to quality education, healthcare, and a brighter future.
