A foreign vendor was shot and killed during an apparent hijacking attempt in Jacobs, Durban, on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024.
The incident occurred around 6:16 am at the intersection of Bluff and Chamberlain roads. According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, paramedics arrived at the scene to find the area cordoned off by police.
“The paramedics discovered a male believed to be in his thirties suffering from gunshot wounds to the chest,” Jamieson said. “Tragically, the injuries were fatal, and despite their best efforts, the paramedics were unable to revive the victim. He was declared deceased at the scene.”
Police spokesperson Captain Carmen Rhynes of the eThekwini District elaborated on the circumstances. “The deceased is believed to have been a foreign national who was setting up his mobile store at the intersection,” Rhynes explained. “We suspect he was confronted by unknown assailants in an attempted hijacking. The victim appears to have resisted, but was unfortunately shot in the upper left abdomen and died at the scene. His blue VW Golf was stolen by the perpetrators.”
The Brighton Beach Police Detectives have opened a case for both murder and carjacking, and a thorough investigation is underway.
