Accra, Ghana – Canada has signalled a renewed commitment to strengthening its partnership with Ghana and Africa as a whole. High Commissioner Martine Moreau conveyed this message during a courtesy call on Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, on Wednesday, June 26th.

High Commissioner Moreau outlined Canada’s plan to review its engagements with African countries and institutions. This review aims to identify areas of mutual interest and forge win-win partnerships at the global, regional, and national levels.

Deputy Minister Ampratwum-Sarpong welcomed this initiative and encouraged expanded cooperation across several key areas. He highlighted trade and investment, health, education and skills development, agriculture, peace and security, and climate change as potential areas for deeper collaboration. He further urged Canadian businesses to explore partnerships with their Ghanaian counterparts for mutual benefit.

This renewed focus on Africa reflects a potential shift in Canada’s foreign policy priorities. The specific areas highlighted by Deputy Minister Ampratwum-Sarpong suggest a desire for collaboration on issues crucial for Ghana’s development and long-term sustainability. The success of this renewed partnership will depend on Canada’s ability to identify and invest in areas that align with Ghana’s development goals, fostering a mutually beneficial relationship.
