Midrand, South Africa – The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) is gearing up for a new chapter, convening a strategic planning workshop to ensure its activities align with the African Union’s ambitious Agenda 2063. Held just ahead of the 3rd Ordinary Session of the Sixth Parliament, the workshop focused on results-based management and strategic planning, aiming to bolster the PAP’s effectiveness and accountability.
President of the PAP, Hon. Chief Fortune Charumbira, opened the session by highlighting the importance of aligning the parliament’s activities with the broader goals of the African Union. The workshop delved into Agenda 2063, the AU’s roadmap for continental development, with a particular focus on its 10-year Implementation Plan and the seven “Moonshot” initiatives. These ambitious goals, symbolizing the AU’s commitment to comprehensive progress, will now serve as guiding lights for the PAP’s strategic priorities from 2024 to 2028.
A key aspect of the workshop was a presentation by Mrs. Botho Keba Bayendi, outlining the next phase of Agenda 2063. This provided a crucial foundation for discussions on the PAP’s strategic niche and its role in driving the implementation of this transformative vision. The leadership of the PAP actively participated in formulating the 2024-2028 strategic plan, equipping themselves with the tools of results-based management and strategic planning. This enhanced capacity will ensure their work demonstrably contributes to Agenda 2063 and ultimately benefits African citizens.
