Presidents Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa and Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria held diplomatic and economic discussions following Tinubu’s attendance at Ramaphosa’s inauguration at the Union Buildings in Tshwane yesterday.

President Tinubu congratulated Ramaphosa on organizing an impressive inauguration and forming a government of national unity. He stated, “I am here to congratulate my brother for putting together a very impressive outing and particularly forming a government of national unity to stabilize the politics, which is crucial at this challenging time for the rest of us in Africa.”

Ramaphosa expressed gratitude for Tinubu’s attendance, noting its positive impact on the South African people. “I’m honoured and privileged to have President Tinubu attend my inauguration yesterday. It lifted my spirits and that of South Africans as a whole. I have come to pay my deepest respects to him and also discuss matters that unite both of our countries,” he said.

During the bilateral talks, Ramaphosa highlighted the significance of the partnership between South Africa and Nigeria. “Our government of national unity is setting a strong foundation for economic growth and investment. Establishing strong economic links with Nigeria is crucial. When South Africa and Nigeria work together, it benefits the entire African continent,” he remarked.

Ramaphosa also emphasized the importance of the two nations’ collaboration on international platforms. “South Africa and Nigeria are among the pillars of the continent, and our support for each other in various forums, including the UN and other multilateral institutions, is vital. We aim to foster good economic and trade relations to address the challenges our countries face,” he added.

“President Ramaphosa’s commitment to mutual respect and cooperation reflects the depth of our relationship,” Tinubu remarked. “We look forward to working together to propel our nations toward greater prosperity and unity.”
