The Japanese Embassy in South Africa commemorated the 70th anniversary of the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) with a reception on June 12th, 2024. The JSDF, established in 1954, safeguards Japan’s territory and plays a crucial role in regional stability. Beyond defense, the JSDF has participated in international peacekeeping missions since 1993, including deployments in Mozambique, South Sudan, and Djibouti. He also emphasized the strong ties between Japan and South Africa, spanning economic cooperation, resource development, infrastructure projects, and human resource initiatives. “The African people are irreplaceable friends of Japan,” the Ambassador declared.
