Ntsime Jafeta has been appointed as the new High Commissioner of the Kingdom of Lesotho to the Republic of Namibia. Jafeta presented his credentials to Namibian President Nangolo Mbumba on June 12, 2024.
The High Commissioner will be based in Pretoria, South Africa, and will cover Namibia on a non-residential basis. This appointment strengthens the long-standing diplomatic relationship between Lesotho and Namibia, established in 1990 shortly after Namibia gained independence.
Lesotho and Namibia have a history of close cooperation on both bilateral and multilateral fronts. They work together within organizations like the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the African Union (AU), the Southern African Customs Union (SACU), the United Nations (UN), and the Commonwealth.
During his presentation, Jafeta highlighted the importance of a General Cooperation Agreement between the two nations. Such an agreement would provide a legal framework for identifying areas of bilateral cooperation, fostering political dialogue, promoting trade relations, and establishing specific bilateral agreements.
