Paramaribo, Suriname – The U.S. Embassy in Paramaribo announced the successful completion of the renovation phase of the Elisabeth Samsonhuis on June 11th. This significant project was funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP).
The AFCP has played a vital role in Suriname’s cultural preservation efforts, supporting five projects since 2001. The Elisabeth Samsonhuis restoration project represents the largest AFCP award to Suriname, totaling nearly $350,000.

The announcement expressed gratitude to all those involved in safeguarding this historic landmark. While the renovation phase is complete, work continues on the interior restoration. The U.S. Embassy looks forward to the Elisabeth Samsonhuis being fully restored to its former glory.
