June 8, 2024 — Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, conducted a working visit to Brunei Darussalam, aiming to bolster the longstanding relationship between the two nations. Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1991, Ghana and Brunei have maintained a cordial connection, marked by high-level exchanges, including visits during the tenure of the late President Jerry John Rawlings.

During her visit, Hon. Botchwey met with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, as well as the Second Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dato Erywan Pehin Yusof. These discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in key areas such as education, health, infrastructure, and institutional development.

Additionally, Hon. Botchwey took the opportunity to promote her candidacy for the post of Secretary-General of the Commonwealth. She presented her vision for transforming the Commonwealth Secretariat into an influential organization, capable of supporting development cooperation and resilience-building in the poorer regions of the Commonwealth.
