Seoul, South Korea – Botswana has pledged its full support to Lesotho’s candidate, Mr. Joshua Setipa, in the upcoming race for Commonwealth Secretary-General. The announcement came during a bilateral meeting between Botswana’s President Mokgweetsi Masisi and Lesotho’s Prime Minister Sam Matekane on the sidelines of the Korea-Africa Summit.

President Masisi emphasized the importance of African unity in presenting a strong contender for the leadership of the 53-member Commonwealth. “It’s Africa’s turn,” he declared, “and the continent needs to agree on a single candidate.” He expressed unwavering backing for Mr. Setipa, a former Lesotho cabinet minister and seasoned diplomat.

“Botswana will champion Mr. Setipa’s candidacy on the world stage,” President Masisi asserted. “We have experience in securing positions like this, and we’ll use that expertise to his advantage.”

The meeting also highlighted the strong ties between Botswana and Lesotho. President Masisi conveyed warm regards to Lesotho’s King Letsie III through Prime Minister Matekane.
