BEIJING, May 30, 2024 — President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China convened in Beijing today to discuss the enduring strategic partnership between their nations.

Welcomed at the Great Hall of the People, His Highness and his delegation engaged in talks with President Xi, emphasizing the long-standing relationship and the progress made across various sectors.

Both leaders acknowledged the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the UAE and China, celebrating the advancements in economic cooperation, cultural exchange, and international collaboration achieved over the decades.

The discussions delved into Middle East developments, with a focus on advocating for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, ensuring civilian protection, and providing sustainable humanitarian aid. Both leaders endorsed efforts towards a two-state solution and supported endeavors for regional calm and stability.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed expressed gratitude for the warm reception, highlighting the historical significance of the UAE-China relationship, which dates back to the early days of the UAE’s formation. He reminisced about the pivotal visit of the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, to China in 1990, and President Xi’s landmark visit to the UAE in 2018, which culminated in the declaration of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Highlighting recent strides in economic, energy, and cultural cooperation, His Highness emphasized China’s role as the UAE’s top global trading partner, with joint efforts aimed at doubling trade volume in the coming years. He underscored the UAE’s position as a key trade gateway to the Arabian Gulf and wider region, offering ample opportunities for Chinese companies to expand their market reach.

President Xi later hosted a banquet in honor of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and the UAE delegation, attended by high-ranking officials from both sides.
