Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has called for urgent conservation efforts in response to the severe climatic challenges posed by El Niño. Speaking to fellow citizens, Hichilema stressed the necessity of preserving nature to ensure the survival of communities amid the global climate crisis.
“Climate change is here, and it is real,” Hichilema stated. He urged citizens to avoid activities that exacerbate the climate crisis, highlighting the detrimental effects of deforestation and other environmentally harmful practices.
“Our survival as humanity depends on conserving nature,” he said. “We must all work together to protect our environment for the continuation of human existence and the improvement of life.”
Hichilema’s remarks came during a conversation with visiting Heads of State and government officials in Livingstone, ahead of the official opening ceremony of the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA). The president emphasized the collective responsibility to safeguard the environment for future generations.
Hichilema called for a united effort in environmental conservation, underscoring the importance of collaboration for a sustainable future. “Together, let’s conserve and preserve our environment for a better tomorrow,” he concluded.
