Lilongwe, Malawi – Malawi’s Vice President, Saulos Chilima, addressed the 41st Annual General Meeting of the Malawi Institute of Architects (MIA) on Wednesday 29th May 2024, highlighting its timeliness in tackling challenges faced by the architectural profession.
Themed “The Architect: Re-imagining Malawi’s Future,” the meeting brought together architects and construction industry professionals to discuss their role in shaping Malawi’s development.
Chilima emphasized the need for innovative architectural practices that can navigate the complexities of the industry. He urged the architects to embrace collaboration for the success of Malawi’s Vision 2063, the country’s long-term development blueprint.
“Architects are the masters of building the foundation of our country’s future,” Chilima declared. He also advised the architects to consider President Chakwera’s earlier remarks when accepting the role of MIA patron in 2021.
MIA President Khumbo Chirwa, in his address, appealed for government collaboration on various construction projects. He believes this partnership is crucial for achieving standardized infrastructure by 2063, as envisioned in Vision 2063. Chirwa also requested the government to create a platform for MIA to showcase their expertise in realizing Malawi’s urbanization aspirations.
