Lesotho’s Setipa Pushes Commonwealth Bid in Canada

Ottawa, Canada – Lesotho’s hopeful for the prestigious position of Commonwealth Secretary-General, Mr. Joshua Setipa, is campaigning across the globe. Setipa, backed by the Kingdom of Lesotho and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), recently visited Toronto, Canada, for a crucial meeting with the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to Lesotho’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Setipa, alongside Lesotho’s Foreign Minister, Honourable Lejone Mpotjoana, received a highly positive welcome from their Canadian counterparts.

Setipa took to Twitter to share details of the meeting. “Today in Toronto,” he wrote, “accompanied by Hon. Lejone Mpotjoana, Lesotho’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, I presented my candidature for the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Secretariat to the Hon. Dr Robert Oliphant, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Canada.” Setipa went on to describe the discussions as “an excellent exchange on Commonwealth issues and priorities.”

Setipa’s visit to Canada is part of his ongoing campaign to secure the prestigious Commonwealth leadership role. The Commonwealth Secretary-General is the chief administrator of the organization, representing 56 member states across the globe.
