The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is celebrating a double victory, claiming the top spot in both Africa and South Africa for young universities in the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings for 2024.
This stellar achievement marks a significant leap for UJ, jumping from the 151-200 band to an impressive 60th place globally among universities under 50 years old.
UJ’s relentless focus on student success, groundbreaking research, and societal impact is evident in this ranking, which assesses universities across teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.
“These rankings are a testament to the dedication and hard work of our entire university community,” said Professor Letlhokwa George Mpedi, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of UJ. “We remain committed to delivering world-class education and impactful research that benefits society.”
This accomplishment goes beyond numbers – it underscores UJ’s positive and lasting impact on its students and the broader community.
The university also secured a notable global position of 624 in the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) for 2024.
