Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has directed all government ministries, departments, and agencies to switch to compressed-natural-gas (CNG)-powered vehicles in a move aimed at bolstering energy security, reducing fuel costs, and transitioning to cleaner energy sources.
The announcement, made during a meeting with the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Monday, underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to comprehensive energy reforms. CNG vehicles are lauded for their lower emissions and affordability compared to traditional gasoline-powered options.
“We cannot achieve progress by remaining stagnant,” President Tinubu declared to FEC members. “Our administration possesses the unwavering will to drive the nationwide adoption of CNG. As public officials, we must serve as role models, leading the charge towards the prosperous future we envision for Nigerians. This starts with us. By demonstrating our commitment, Nigerians will undoubtedly follow suit.”
President Tinubu went a step further, instructing the council to reject all proposals for the purchase of traditional gasoline vehicles. Instead, he tasked them with prioritizing the procurement of CNG-compliant alternatives, ensuring value-driven choices.
