French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent aggressive rhetoric has left even his allies puzzled, according to remarks from Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
Speaking to TASS, Zakharova highlighted the confusion surrounding Macron’s statements, stating that even France’s closest allies, including the UK and Germany, seek clarification on the French leadership’s intentions without receiving direct answers.
Zakharova’s comments come in the wake of the summoning of the French ambassador to the Russian Foreign Ministry, with Zakharova expressing bewilderment at the consistent aggressive stance emanating from Macron and his inner circle, which includes relatively inexperienced members, particularly within the diplomatic service.
She noted that the lack of clarity surrounding Macron’s statements has not only caused controversy but has also contributed to heightened tensions due to their aggressive nature. This aggressiveness, Zakharova emphasized, prompted the summoning of the French ambassador by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The summoning of the French ambassador occurred amid growing tensions between France and Russia, with the Russian Foreign Ministry criticizing Paris for its “destructive” approach. In particular, Russia expressed dissatisfaction with France’s attempts to sow “strategic uncertainty” through discussions of potential troop deployments to Ukraine.
