Ethiopia, Iraq Pledge Closer Ties as Envoy Arrives

Ethiopian Ambassador Dr. Sied Muhumed Jibril officially began his diplomatic duties in Iraq after presenting his credentials to President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid during a ceremony at the Baghdad Presidential Palace on April 30, 2024.

Ambassador Jibril delivered greetings from Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde and highlighted the long-standing positive relationship between the two nations. He expressed his commitment to further strengthening these ties across all sectors.

The Ambassador also praised Iraq’s decision to reopen its embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital. He assured President Rashid of his government’s full support in facilitating this process.

President Rashid reciprocated the positive sentiments. He emphasized Iraq’s dedication to bolstering both bilateral and multilateral relations with Ethiopia. He confirmed the reopening of the Iraqi embassy in Addis Ababa, expressing appreciation for Ethiopia’s acceptance of this move.

This exchange signals a renewed focus on collaboration between the two countries, fostering deeper cooperation in the years to come.
