A 42-year-old Burundi-born man appeared in Perth Magistrates Court today facing charges of breaching his visa conditions.
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) arrested the man on Wednesday after allegedly finding him in violation of his court-mandated curfew.
Prosecutors allege the man violated the terms of his Commonwealth visa between April 26th and May 1st, 2024. Specifically, he is accused of failing to comply with his curfew restrictions on five separate occasions and neglecting to maintain a functioning monitoring device.
The charges, outlined under the Migration Act 1958, carry a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and a hefty fine of $93,900. The man’s next court appearance is scheduled for May 16th.
