ABUJA – President Bola Tinubu met with the newly appointed service chiefs on Monday, stressing the importance of teamwork and highlighting the urgent tasks that lie ahead. The meeting marked the first encounter between Tinubu and the new National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu, as well as the service chiefs, since their appointment on June 19, 2023.

Speaking to State House correspondents, the NSA conveyed the President’s unwavering support to the service chiefs. Ribadu expressed that the service chiefs have pledged their loyalty not only to the President but also to the Nigerian people. He further emphasized their unwavering commitment to working tirelessly in order to ensure the security of the nation.

Ribadu acknowledged that President Tinubu made the right choices in selecting the service chiefs and has high expectations for their performance. He stated, “We are here to express our gratitude to Mr. President for granting us the opportunity to serve our country and his administration. We have also pledged our loyalty to him, Nigeria, and its citizens.”

He continued, “We firmly believe that the President has made the correct and appropriate choices, as we are well aware of his vision for this country. We will exert every effort to achieve the objective of securing our nation, establishing peace and stability, and restoring normalcy to our lives.” Despite acknowledging the magnitude of the task ahead, Ribadu assured the public that it would be successfully accomplished.

“In our current position, it is evident that the situation in our country is already improving. The records indicate a decline in crime rates and criminal activities, and this trend will continue. We will secure this nation,” Ribadu affirmed confidently.

He concluded by stating, “Nigerians have witnessed the caliber of individuals given this opportunity, and they are arguably some of the finest we have. They will not disappoint you; they will undoubtedly deliver. Thank you very much.”

The security meeting was attended by several high-ranking officials, including the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General C.G. Musa; the Chief of Army Staff, Major General T.A. Lagbaja; the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral E.A. Ogalla; and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal H.B. Abubakar. Also present at the gathering was the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
