Katsina State, Nigeria – In a heartfelt farewell address on Saturday night, Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State humbly asked for forgiveness for any shortcomings during his eight-year tenure, which is set to end on Monday. Expressing gratitude to the residents of the state, Masari acknowledged their support throughout his tenure.

Governor Masari made these remarks a mere 26 hours before handing over the reins of leadership to the Governor-elect, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda. The governor’s sincere appeal for forgiveness took place during a media parley held at Katsina State Radio. The event was attended by prominent personalities, including Aliyu Abdullahi Yar’adua, the New Executive Director of the Katsina Library and Information Board, Sani Bala Kabomo, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, and Yakubu Safana, the General Manager of Katsina State Radio Service.

Reflecting on his time in office, Governor Masari acknowledged his fallibility, stating, “I am as ordinary as anybody; I can make mistakes. I deemed it fit to come and seek forgiveness from the good people of Katsina State.” He expressed his hope and prayers that the residents would extend their support to the incoming governor. Masari appealed to the people of Katsina to prioritize the well-being of the state in all their endeavors.

Governor Masari also highlighted the extensive development initiatives undertaken during his tenure, emphasizing the significant focus placed on education. He stated that developed countries excelled due to their prioritization of education, adding, “I have touched virtually all sectors of development within the period under review, with at least 50 percent coverage of all sectors.”

Masari acknowledged that some of the projects implemented during his administration might not yield immediate visible impact. He believed that the true effects would be felt in the next ten to twenty years, as his initiatives were aimed at improving the lives of the people of Katsina State. Expressing gratitude for the support he received, Masari stated, “I thank Katsina residents for doing what they have never done for any politician in the country.”

Furthermore, Governor Masari expressed his confidence in Governor-elect Radda’s ability to deliver good governance for the state. Citing their 20-year political relationship, he believed that Radda possessed all the qualities necessary for effective leadership.

As Governor Aminu Masari concludes his term, his appeal for forgiveness and gratitude to the people of Katsina State reflect his commitment to serving the best interests of the residents. The incoming Governor-elect, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, assumes office with high expectations, built upon his longstanding political association with Governor Masari. The future of Katsina State holds promise as it transitions into a new era of governance.
