The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) 2023 has announced its nominees, and Nollywood stars Tobi Bakre, Bimbo Ademoye, and Chidi Mokeme are among the top contenders. The nominations list was released on Sunday, April 16, 2023, by the awards organizers, MultiChoice, ahead of the 9th edition of the prestigious event, which recognizes outstanding performances in television, film, and entertainment.
This year’s nominations list includes various categories, some of which are open for public voting to determine the winners, while others will be decided by a panel of judges to be set up by the organizers. The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held in Lagos, Nigeria on May 20, 2023.
Tobi Bakre, known for his roles in popular Nollywood movies such as “Brotherhood,” has been nominated for Best Actor in a Drama (Movie/TV Series), while Bimbo Ademoye, who has gained acclaim for her performances in “Selina” and “Anikulapo,” is nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy (Movie/TV Series) as well as Best Actress in a Drama (Movie/TV Series).
Chidi Mokeme, a veteran Nollywood actor known for his roles in “Shanty Town” and other notable movies, is also vying for the award for Best Actor in a Drama (Movie/TV Series).
Other notable nominees include Blossom Chukwujekwu, Femi Adebayo, Richard Mofe Damijo, Ini Edo, Nse Ikpe-Etim, O.C. Ukeje, Sola Sobowale, and Teniola Aladese, among others, who are all competing for various categories in the highly anticipated awards.
In addition to the traditional categories for movies and TV series, this year’s AMVCA has also introduced new categories that recognize digital content creation throughout Nollywood and the entire African content, such as Best Online Social Content Creator, Best Original Telenovela, and Best Unscripted Original.
The AMVCA has become one of the most prestigious awards ceremonies in Africa, celebrating and honoring the achievements of actors, actresses, filmmakers, and other industry professionals in the African entertainment scene.
