On March 9, a collision occurred between a Lagos State Government staff bus and a train at the PWD railway crossing in Ikeja Local Government Area.
As a result of the collision, six fatalities and 96 injuries with varying degrees of severity were recorded.
The Lagos State Government has decided to file charges against the driver of the staff bus for six counts of manslaughter and 10 counts of grievous bodily harm, which are offenses under Sections 224 and 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
According to a statement from the office of the Director of Public Affairs in the state’s Ministry of Justice, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Dr. Jide Martins, has reviewed the case file and found a prima facie case of manslaughter and grievous bodily harm against the driver of the staff bus, Mr. Oluwaseun Osibanjo.
He was apprehended and handed over to the police for investigation and possible prosecution by the state. After the investigation, the case file was forwarded to the DPP for further action.
