The Ministry of Aviation under the Federal Government is exploring methods of increasing revenue generation in the aviation sector, particularly by collecting landing fees from helicopters that operate in Nigerian airspace.
To this end, the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, oversaw the training of a new group of Helicopter Monitoring Officers at the Port Harcourt International Airport, and commissioned a monitoring facility for helicopters.
The Director of Human Resources at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria reiterated the government’s determination to improve revenue collection from helicopter landing charges.
The newly trained Helicopter Monitoring Officers will be responsible for monitoring every helicopter take-off and landing in the country and collecting landing fees on behalf of the government.
The minister’s innovative approach to the sector was praised by the event’s host.
