The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) plans to appeal a court ruling that granted the request of two plaintiffs to use their temporary voter cards (TVCs) in voting.
The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, confirmed this in a statement released on Thursday.
The commission intends to approach the appellate court against the judgement of the trial court, according to the statement. Justice Obiora Egwuatu had granted the order allowing the use of the TVCs while delivering Judgement in a suit filed by two Nigerians who requested the use of TVCs in the general elections in the absence of permanent voter cards (PVCs).
The court ordered the use of TVCs for the plaintiffs because they were duly registered and captured in INEC’s database, but was unable to grant the third prayer, which would have allowed all eligible voters with TVCs to vote since the suit was not filed in a representative capacity.
