During the commissioning of the Chokocho-Igbodo Road in the Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, Governor Nyesom Wike clarified that he did not criticize the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, or his All Progressives Congress counterpart, Bola Tinubu, during the just-concluded February 25 presidential election.
This was because he believed in power rotation to the southern region of Nigeria and saw himself as an “apostle” of this cause. He stated that he owed no one an apology for supporting the rotation of power to the south after President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight-year tenure, who is from Katsina State in the North-West geopolitical zone.
Wike commended the people for voting for a southern President in the just-concluded elections and reiterated that he believed in equity, fairness, and justice.
He also mentioned that the Peoples Democratic Party constitution recognized zoning and rotational presidency, but the leadership of the party contravened the provisions of the party’s regulations.
Finally, Wike stated that his position was that anyone from the south would be suitable for the presidency.
