An opinion poll commissioned by non-profit organization, Anap Foundation, has predicted that Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the current governor of Lagos State, will win the gubernatorial election scheduled for March 11.
The poll, conducted in February before the presidential election, indicated that Sanwo-Olu was ahead among the three leading candidates in the state.
Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (LP) and Abdul-Azeez Adediran of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received 8% and 7% of the vote, respectively, while Sanwo-Olu was preferred by 31% of those surveyed.
The poll noted that the opposition voters were fragmented between two main challengers, giving Sanwo-Olu a significant lead.
The APC, which Sanwo-Olu represents, is reportedly concerned that the presidential election result could be indicative of what is to come in the gubernatorial race, as Lagos is the political stronghold of Bola Tinubu, the president-elect.
