On Sunday, Asíwájú Bola Tinubu, who was announced as the winner of the presidential election held on February 25, arrived in Lagos to a rapturous welcome from a large crowd of supporters and party members at the presidential wing of Murtala Muhammed Airport in Ikeja, where his private jet had landed.

He then proceeded to the Iga-Iduganran palace of the Oba of Lagos, Rilwanu Akiolu, where the traditional ruler and chiefs were waiting for him.

Among those who welcomed Tinubu at the airport were Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Chief of Staff, Tayo Ayinde; former Lagos Deputy Governor, Femi Pedro; veteran politician Senator Musiliu Obanikoro; former Commissioner for Environment in Lagos, Muiz Banire; and Woman Leader in the state, Jumoke Okoya-Thomas.

This information was contained in a statement issued by Tinubu’s media adviser, Tunde Rahman, on Sunday.

Speaking to the crowd gathered inside the palace, Tinubu expressed gratitude to God and the people for his victory, describing the primary and election processes as a tricky and unpredictable World Cup tournament. He also reassured Nigerians that he would work tirelessly for the country and not disappoint them.

In his reaction to Tinubu’s homecoming, Oba Akiolu described him as a special breed destined for leadership at the very top. Other traditional rulers at the palace included the monarch of Ikate-Elegushi Kingdom, Oba Saheed Elegushi, and the Oniru of Iruland, Oba Omogbolahan Lawal.
